SUNDAY league side SParTEN FC lifted the Junior Cup for the third successive season after a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Andover RBL FC.

The Andover and District Sunday League Division Three side, who had previously won the cup in the last two seasons under the name AFC Wolversedene Reserves, triumphed again on Sunday with the 4-3 shoot-out win over their division rivals.

The game, played at the home of Andover New Street, Foxcotte Park, was forced to penalties after both teams failed to find the net in both normal and extra time.

Neither side created any real chances of note in the first half but SParTEN had a handful of chances after the break.

Substitute Chris Robinson had the best opportunity for SParTEN when he fired off a shot following a skilful solo run, but the shot was saved.

Andover RBL FC arguably created the best chance of the game with Charlie Flack having to make a dramatic goalline clearance to prevent a certain goal.

Injuries resulted in Andover RBL FC having to play the majority of extra time with 10 men, however SParTen could not take advantage as the game ended scoreless.

SParTEN captain and man-of-thematch Nathan Young missed the opening penalty before SParTEN missed again to give RBL a chance to take a 2-0 lead.

However RBL missed their second and third with SParTen eventually levelling the shoot-out at 3-3.

Ollie Emslie bagged the winning penalty to win the cup for SParTEn.

Manager Danny Lunness said: β€œTo win the cup three times in a row is a fantastic achievement. I know the whole squad is buzzing to have won it again.”
