WHITCHURCH United could move up to 17th in the Wessex Premier League if they can secure an away win against Bemerton Heath Harlequins this weekend.

The Jam Boys face the Salisbury based side on Saturday, knowing a win could put further day light between them and relegation threatened Alresford Town in 19th.

However United, who haven’t played since their 3-2 home win over Andover Town in December, could face a potentially tricky tie against mid-table Bemerton who have shown their potential at times despite struggling for consistency this season.

Manager Carl Bennett believes his side can secure victory on Saturday but has warned his players that they must be at the “top of their game”.

He told the Andover Advertiser: “I’ve told the players that this side (Bemerton) can beat anyone so we must make sure we are at the top of our game when we go there.

“Any side that plays under Graham (Kemp) is a good side and he has some good players in his team.

“They are a little up and down this season so that’s why we feel we can get something from this game.”

United are yet to play a game in January with home ties against Hamworthy and Cowes Sport both being postponed due to the recently poor weather conditions.

Bennet is hoping that the lack of games hasn’t damaged his side’s momentum.

He said: “It’s a 50/50 thing.

“On the one hand we went into this off the back of two really good results with a 1-1 draw down at Portchester and a 3-2 win over Andover so we will have to rebuild that momentum now.

“However sometimes it can work in your favour because if you have a few players with niggling injuries it gives those players a rest and time to manage their injuries.

“We have Tom Lockyer out at the moment so we will now get him back for an extra two weeks at the end of the season which is good.

He added: “I’ve told the boys we need to start where we left off and if we do I think we can get a win on Saturday.”

Whitchurch’s game will be played at the Westwood Recreation Ground, Salisbury.

Kick off will be at 3pm.
