MARK Gates recently braved the wind and rain to lift Andover Golf Club’s Roy Wilson Memorial Cup.

Mr Gates triumphed in the stableford competition, which is in memory of former captain Roy Wilson, scoring a total of 38 points despite the poor weather.

And Mr Gates had to beat more than just the rain and wind, holding off a strong field which included Matt Aldridge, who finished runner up with 37 points and Roger Chapman who finished third in the competition with a score of 36 points.

The competition was hosted by Andover Golf Club’s new captain Michael Batchelor, his first tournament of his captaincy so far.

Mr Batchelor also announced on the day that the club’s charity for the year will be the Enham Trust.

Over £100 was raised at the event, which will be given to the Enham based disability charity.

The club will continue to raise money for the charity in the New Year and throughout 2016.
