THE Andover Swimming and Water Polo Club finished second in the Hants and South Coast League.

A series of three swimming galas were held, with the final gala at the Basingstoke Aquadrome on September 26.

There were a total of 51 races in the gala, with the Isle of Wight, Romsey & Totton and Havant & Waterlooville taking part.

After 10 races, Andover were third despite Chloe Smith coming first in the Under-12’s 50 metre freestyle and Mateusz Granica coming first in the boys Under-12’s 50 metre butterfly.

Firsts were then won by Oliver Hunt in the boys Under-16’s 50 metre freestyle and backstroke and from Granica in the Under-12’s 50 metre breaststroke.

Maisie Langdown and Oliver Cieply, then brought firsts in the Under-12’s 50 metre butterfly.

Langdown, Smith, Ruby Goddard and Sophie Channell won the girls Under-12’s freestyle relay while Granica, William Miles, Thomas Kirwan and Cieply won the boys.

The final race was the squadron freestyle relay with eight swimmers Channell, Granica, Eleanor Williams, Logan Hammond, Tierney Goddard, Hunt and Megan Kirwan holding first place throughout.

Theo Shoemark won the final length to secure victory in the relay and second place overall.

THE Andover Swimming and Water Polo Club recently held its second annual 50 Metre Sprint Championships at the Andover Leisure Centre.

The event was split in to two days with with freestyle and backstroke competitions on the first and butterfly and breaststroke on day two.

Age groups started from under 12s in the girls section with Maisie Langdown claiming gold in freestyle and butterfly and bronze in both backstroke and breaststroke.

Eleanor Williams dominated the under 14s taking gold in all categories while Tierney Goddard did the same in the under 16s.

In the women’s section Paige Bayliss took gold in freestyle and breaststroke as well as taking silver in backstroke and butterfly, which was won by Ellie Smith.

In the boys’ under 12s section Thomas Kirwan won three golds while Mateusz Granica won all golds in the under 14s.

Oliver Hunt won gold in all races except breaststroke which was won by Junior Captain Jude Goddard.

Finally in the men’s open, Mark Smith won gold in all races with Guy Kitchen winning all silvers.

The club is now looking forward to a swim event in Fleet on 31 October and further championships at home in November.
