ANDOVER Lions took their winning run into double figures last weekend with an emphatic 7-0 win over Broughton.

Lions, who have now won 10 consecutive games in all competitions, were helped by an impressive 30 minute hat-trick from second half substitute Dean Smith.

The winger replaced Kris Hudson shortly after the hour mark and went on to bag three goals and help the Lions maintain their five point lead at the top of the Hampshire Football League Division 1.

The home side went ahead after 20 minutes when Shane Lock’s header was pushed out for a corner, only from Mark Keogh to head home Hudson’s resulting set piece.

Joe Wright doubled the home side’s advantage going into half time.

After the break Lock grabbed his ninth of the season when he headed home Hudson’s pinpoint cross.

Smith then replaced Hudson on the hour mark and made an immediate impact, scoring the Lions fourth goal after a clever pass from Tommy Stringer.

Zac Neve made it 5-0 in the 75th minute before turning provider to play Smith in for his second of the match.

Smith rounded up his second hattrick of the season five minutes later after some quick play between him and Wright to round-up the scoring and earn Lions another three points.

Lions manager John Smith was full of praise for his side after the game.

He said: “We played some of our best football of the season in the game and some of the passing and moving was very good.

“That’s 10 wins from our first 10 games. I could not possibly have asked for more from this team.

These players want to get better every week and win this League.”

Talking about the performance of his hat-trick hero, Smith added “Dean epitomised what we want from our squad.

“He is a very good player that would get any other team in this League but is more often on the bench.

“He doesn’t complain and then when he gets his chance he takes it.”
