TWO of Andover’s best known bike riders travelled to Holland over the weekend, to race the Assen TT circuit, writes Tim Crisp.

Leon Morris, who was competing in the Ducati Trioption Cup, went into competition leading the championship and came away still on top of the table.

However his lead has been drastically cut down to only one point.

He started the first of his two races from third place on the grid around the flat and very fast 2.87 mile Dutch TT track and at the end of the 10 lap race Morris crossed the Jake Archer on his RS Racing Honda 250cc bike line to add 16 more points towards his championship tally.

With two wins so far this year, Leon’s season has been about consistently finishing and he has scored points in all but one round.

But now there is a strong attack from the rider with six wins after the weekend, Robbie Brown, who is on a good run of form with only two rounds to go.

Luck was on Morris’s side in race two as he was at the front in the early laps but then fell back to third again.

That looked to be the outcome up until two corners from the end when Rob Guiver tangled with a back marker and went off track and this then allowed Morris to move up to second and 20 points was the reward.

Morris and his Carl Cox Motorsport P&H Motorcycle team have two weeks before the next round at Silverstone.

Meanwhile Andover rider Jake Archer, competing in the Hel Performance Motostar British Championship, had two races over the weekend.

With his second place podium finish fresh in his mind from Oulton Park two weeks ago, the 15-year old was further looking to build on his success on the RS Racing Honda 250cc bike.

In race one Archer started fourth and finished fifth and in race two.

Jake started fifth and finished fourth which now sees him in seventh place in the championship.

Both Archer and Morris return to Britain for the next round of their respective tournaments when they race at the home of British Motorsport, Silverstone.

The pair will race across the weekend of 2 October with all eyes on Morris as he attempts to put distance between him and the chasing pack.
