WIMBLEDON may be the sporting event known for strawberries but that didn’t stop one sports club getting a flavour for themselves.

Andover Golf Club hosted their Strawberry Scramble match last weekend – a golfing competition which is followed by a round of strawberries and cream tea.

The golf consists of a scramble, whereby three senior men and two ladies team up and play alternate shots in an attempt to get the ball in the hole in the least number of shots by improving their team member’s effort.

Two drives are taken from each tee and the next shot is taken from the position of the best drive.

The third shot is then taken from the position of the best second shot and when reaching the green the best putt is chosen to attempt to hole out.

The competition was played over ten holes with a par of 38.

The best team score of the day was achieved by two of the five teams with a level par rounds.

After the handicap adjustment the team consisting of senior’s vicecaptain Billy Savage, lady members Liz Paul and Sandy Nealis with seniors Mike Bulpitt and Graham Stallard were victorious on the day with a net score of 25.8.

Second was the team captained by the seniors secretary Mervyn Perry, along with Lorraine Colliss and Louise Hughes and seniors Roger Brooks and John Holland with a score of one over par and nett score of 26.9.
