AT THE LAST round of the Ducati TriOptions Cup only one of the two races were held, so a third was added at the latest round of the World Superbike Championship where the Ducatis were part of the support programme, writes Tim Crisp.

Donington Park hosted the only UK round of the FIM World Superbike Championship over the weekend, and Stockbridge rider Leon Morris was on hand to deliver three absolutely outstanding race results.

After an excellent qualifying session, Morris was on pole position for the opening race.

Despite only being eight laps long, it was a gripping race, with Morris embroiled in a ferocious battle for the lead with Robbie Brown.

The race had the crowd out of their seats as the two riders pulled away, leaving the rest of the field trailing.

It was incredibly tight, but Morris had to settle for second place, a result that earned him 20 points in the championship race.

A dry and warmer track saw another race in which the track’s lap record was broken.

Brown pulled away and went on to record his second win of the day but Morris battled with Rob Guiver for 10 laps. At the flag, Morris came home in third place by just 0.056 of a second.

However, more importantly, the result left him with championship points in the bag, with the result putting him into the lead at the top of the standings.

There was a late start for the Sunday race, but another great battle developed.

Morris was running in second place until a brake problem cost him two positions.

However, achieving a fourth place finish to back up his two podium appearances from the day before was still an outstanding result.

The Ducatis now have a few weeks off as their next race is at Knockhill on July 3.
