ANDOVER Cricket Club’s Second XI fell to an 82 run home defeat against Redlynch and Hale Seconds last weekend despite an impressive performance with both bat and ball from Ed Duckworth.

The all-rounder top scored for his side on the day with a credible 37 runs off 71 balls before being bowled by James Taylor, who took three wickets, as Andover slumped to an all out 114 run total.

A disappointing start to the innings from openers Sean Purchase, who was bowled by Dave Webber for just 13, and Shaun Attwood, trapped LBW by Ben Brown, was made worse when Luke Andrews was dismissed for a duck of another Brown LBW.

However Duckworth, in at six, steadied the ship slightly before continuing his good form with the ball as he proceeded to take three wickets of his own, including opener Ian Tanner.

The batsman scored 64 as he built up an impressive partnership with fellow top order batsman Dave Webber, who scored 41 before being caught off the bowling of Olly Cox.

Despite Duckworth’s success however it was not good enough to prevent his side’s defeat as Redlynch and Hale scored 196 in total with five wickets to spare.
