ARMS Athletic were crowned Hampshire Intermediate Cup champions on Sunday after another penalty shoot-out victory against a physical West Farnborough FC.
On a blustery day at Christchurch FC The Arms played into the wind in the first half and for most of it it was backs against the wall for back four and keeper.
Marshalled by the experienced Mark Keogh and power of young Brad Craney they held firm absorbing pressure from a pacey Farnborough front four.
Arms missed a number of chances and were punished ten minutes from the break when West Farnborough took the lead and were thankful to Keogh making a last ditch tackle and Alex Thompson making a smart save at his near post.
The Arms came out firing in the second half and immediately responded through top scorer Lee Cogan as he ghosted in at the back post.
Farnborough went in search of victory before Thompson made a smart stop; then a point blank block from Sam Coleman deflected the ball for a corner.
From it, an unmarked Farnborough player headed home, but Arms responded and threw everyone forward, including keeper Thompson and confusion in the area resulted in an own goal.
So the game headed to penalties for the second week running.
Thompson saved the first and third shot after skipper Jamie Coleman, Hudson and Titch Collicott netted.
It was left to Aaron Jeffrey to slot home the winning penalty.
