ANDOVER Golf Club’s seniors section have been celebrating the end of a busy golfing season.

Andover finished third in the North Hants Senior Jubilee Winter League, winning six matches and losing four. In the final match Andover hosted Alton, who at that point were top of the league, and won 3-2, which relegated them to runnersup with Weybrook Park taking the honours.

Senior captain Ted Bentley thanked all the players that had supported him during the year and said it had been an honour and privilege to represent them. The main event of 2014 was the Senior Captain’s Day in June which was well supported and successful, the profit from which had been used to pay for the building of an additional buggy shed for the members’ use.

Seniors’ secretary Mervyn Perry congratulated the winners of the seniors’ perpetual trophies for 2014. The Fluen Cup (singles knockout) won by Bev Blake, Machin Cup (pairs knockout) – Des Pearce and Les Britten, the Kennett Trophy (best home player at the Open) – David Kettell, Winter Eclectic (Gross) – Trevor Wilson, Winter Eclectic (Nett) – Graham Stallard, who also represented the Seniors in the Age Concern Hampshire played at Bramshaw.

The final social event of the year will be held on Wednesday, December 10, when senior and lady golfers will play a mixed Texas Scramble over ten holes followed by a Christmas dinner.
