Barton Stacey 5 Arms Athletic 1.

Graham and Co sponsored Barton Stacey convincingly beat league rivals Arms Athletic with a clinical and dominant display.

Barely five minutes had elapsed when Sean Anderson gave the champions the lead with an opportunist goal before impressive debutant Zac Neve doubled the lead with a sublime finish.

A goal against the run of play from Kris Hudson halved the deficit, but when Neve was fouled in the box another debutant, Cole Hinchcliffe despatched his penalty with assurance to restore the two goal lead.

The second half was a competitive affair, but it was still the village outfit that looked more dangerous on the attack.

Neve made it four with a poacher’s finish before substitute Terry Mthimkhulu put gloss on a great team display with a fine individual goal.

Man of the match was Aaron Jeffery while Alex Iddles was another stand out performer.

Welcome Stranger 0 Shalbourne 2.

Newly formed Welcome Stranger started the season with a Junior Cup tie against another new side to the league Shalbourne.

The home side started slowly in a closely fought first half with few chances created for either side and Micky Clark seldom troubled in the home goal.

Richie Arnold and Steve Smith had a storming game in midfield for the pub side and Hiro Hidaira looked dangerous in attack, however the game remained goalless at half-time. The second half was again evenly fought but late in the game Shalbourne took the lead from the penalty spot following a foul and netted a second in the last minute as Stranger pressed forward looking for an equaliser.

The result left player/manager Ben Andrews disappointed with the outcome after a great team performance.

Nether Wallop 2 Chute United 3.

Chute Utd ended their doubts of ever being able to start the season with a opening win at Nether Wallop.

They started slowly and found themselves trailing 2-0 for most of the first half but a good move ended with James Bryant pulling a goal back before half-time.

Chute gathered momentum in the second half and Jamie Dockree levelled from a free-kick.

Not settling for a draw Chute pushed on and were rewarded the points when young new signing Tyler Lewis set up James Clinch to fire from the edge of the penalty area to give Chute the win, The match was excellently officiated by Ade Skeates.

Anton Arms 3 Wolversdene 3.

Wolversdene started emphatically making the most of Anton Arms’ slow start and were 2-0 up within 20 minutes.

With Arms trying to hit on the break, Wolversdene furthered their advantage with an excellent third goal.

Slowly Anton Arms came back into the game creating chances but were unable to finish until a rare headed goal from Lee Ayres on the stroke of half-time.

The second half proved to be a complete turnaround of domination with Anton Arms having most of the possession and limiting Wolversdene to the odd chance.

Arms pulled it back to 2-3 after a Shaun O’Shea shot came back of the cross bar and the rebound was headed home by Mark Fiddes.

It remained 2-3 until the last five minutes when Wolversdene were awarded a penalty which came back of the crossbar and Anton Arms duly went down the other end and equalised through CJ Logan after excellent work on the left hand side from Martin Robinson.

On the balance of play a draw was a fair result.

Wolversdene A 10 Railway Tavern 1.

Wolves A got off to a winning start with a cup victory against a ten man Railway Tavern team who battled to the end. Graham Taylor opened the scoring with an inswinging corner then an Eric Jones header, Carl Smith's thunder strike and Chris Burroughes’ clean finish gave them a four goal lead at the break.

Burroughes and Taylor completed braces and there were goals from Paul Gale, Shane Anniss and Terry Selvey plus an own goal caused by Conor Lunn's pressure. Railway Tavern scored a well deserved goal through Aaron Perry.
