Penton v Winterbourne II.
Winterbourne II batted in the final game of the season with Gary Arnold (11) and Mike Turner (10). Bevon Joseph took a fine catch off Barry Kavanagh’s bowling to dismiss Arnold and Neilon Liam Joseph bowled Turner shortly afterwards with the score on 26. Nathan McSweeney (4) was then caught by Paul Stanford off Kavanagh before Mick Hunter (35) and Chris Dickinson (30 no) produced a steadying partnership of 48 to boost the score up to 74. When Kavanagh caught a difficult high ball to dismiss Hunter, Winterbourne completed their innings on 116 -6.
Penton’s opener Richard Jenson was caught early for six off Ghula Abbas, but John Hunter (32) and Huw Rouse (66) were able to take the score to 120-1 for Penton’s tenth win out of 12 games this season to secure promotion to Regional Division 2 next year after seven years in Division 3. Special thanks go to retiring chairman and groundsman Paul Gibbs, who has been involved with the club since it was reformed in 1970, for all his unseen work on the pitch and organisation of the club.
