Thruxton v Soton Travellers II.

Thruxton, sponsored by JPD Property Services, finished of the season with a comfortable 55 runs win. Losing the toss, and asked to bat first, openers Andy McGovern and Sean Yates scored just 28 of the first ten overs with Yates taking 24 balls to get off the mark but this steady approach paid off for Thruxton as the run rate escalated in the next 16 overs reaching 121-0 off 26 overs, both passing 50 on the way. Knowing they had to push on, McGovern (52) was caught going for a big shot too many, and ending the highest first wicket partnership for the pair in years (124). A few over later Yates was stumped for a superb 73 which included six fours and four sixes. The new batsmen didn't have much time left and Thruxton lost a number of cheap wickets going from 163-2 to 212-9.

Soton started the chase badly with Knight taking the first wicket with the score on two and Dean Cresswell keeping it tight at his end so they were 15-1 off ten overs. Cresswell finished his spell with out of this world figures of 10-6-2-14 and bowling 55 dots out of his 60 balls. Knight backed him up well with 1-40 off his ten overs. Needing runs quickly and with fresh bowlers on, Soton found runs easier to come by, but with some supreme fielding Spencer's pick up and throw saw the end of Phillips and flow of wickets kept on following for Thruxton with no real partnerships and Yates taking 2-32 and Harvey 2-25. Thruxton won by 55 runs to finish fourth in the league.
