Hobos v Wherwell.

After losing the Wherwell were asked to field on probably the hottest Saturday of the year.

As the bowlers rotated in the heat they struggled until an injection of energy at second drinks brought wickets. Pick of the bowlers was Nathan Young (4-30) as Hobos posted a challenging 202 on a crumbling pitch. Alex Gladwyn took five catches in the outfield.

Wherwell started the reply in great shape as Craig Beckingham regularly found the boundary until he tried one shot too many and sparked a mini collapse.

The lower order batted with real fight as Matt Guilfoyle counter-attacked with a form finding 41. Unfortunately despite some great running from the tail KJM sponsored Wherwell finished 12 runs short at 190 all out.

Wherwell II v Compton & CF IV.

On one of warmest days of the year, Compton IV won the toss and elected to bowl.

Experienced skipper Mick Ling with up-and-coming youthful member Nick Baughen opened the batting, but were looking in trouble within the first ten overs.

New player Giles Elwes (65) hit the highest score of the day which regained Wherwell’s stability.

Jordan Trebert and Simon Shickland hit solid scores to carry Wherwell up to a respectable 175 all out.

Wherwell continued to thrive with Robby Gladwyn taking 4-36 and young Baughen toook a much needed wicket early on, which later enabled Ling to take another two, followed by Cray Sams finishing off with 2-1.

This was Wherwell II’s first win of the year and it was achieved by tremendous team spirit.

Wherwell v Soton Warriors.

Captain Alex Gladwyn won the toss and decided to bat and after eight overs Wherwell were 27-3.

This brought together in-form Stuart Taylor and captain Gladwyn and both batted well and put together an 85 run partnership before Gladwyn departed for 36.

Taylor held the innings together striking some lusty blows before being bowled for 96 trying to smash his way to his fifth 100 this season but got Wherwell to good total of 224.

In reply Warriors got off to a poor start losing two early wickets to Oliver Emslie and Robbie Gladwyn.

Unfortunately this couldn't be followed up with an usually poor display in the field from Wherwell, as they were unable to break a big partnership.

Eventually Harry Trebert and Charles Ingrem took the breakthrough wickets. but it was too late as Warriors reached the total with two overs remaining.
