Collingbourne v Beanacre and Melksham.

Stand in captain Owen Sheppard lost the toss and was asked to field first on a dry looking pitch in hot weather.

Collingbourne could have had Beanacre two down in the first two overs but Harry Browne didn’t have to wait long for his maiden first XI wicket as he got an edge through to keeper Karl Gingell.

After a slow start Beanacre and Melksham got going as they reached 56 from 11 overs before Archie Scott and Brett struck but they really turned up the gas as they went to 173-4 from 30 overs.

The key wicket of Brown was taken by Scott in his second spell and Browne and Jon Candler then bowled them out for 229 with Candler picking up three wickets in two overs and Browne claiming the last man thanks to a good steepling catch by Gingell to claim his third victim.

In reply Collingbourne lost Graham Chandler and Ben Nichols with the score on 26. Paul Gittens increased the tempo with Will Atkinson as the pair put on 70 in 14 overs before Gittens (42) was out.

Atkinson hit a hard fought 39 and Scott fell for 15 and Sheppard for 12. Browne batted well, supported by Gingell until he was out hit wicket following through on the best hit six he has ever played.

Browne fell soon after and Candler too but not before they saw Collingbourne through to 163 from 39.5 overs.
