All the sections of Tidworth Garrison Golf Club participated to determine who would be Ladies, Seniors and Juniors' Champions and the accolade of accolades - the Club Champion.

These are scratch competitions but there were also handicap trophies to be won, which were more within reach of all the club's lesser golfing mortals.

So it was that more than 90 went out in handicap order and the Seniors' Championship, being an 18-hole competition was determined by the evening's close and vice-captain Mike Cripps won with a gross 74 - two shots ahead of Ian Mills. Sixty-nine made the cut into Sunday's second round with Matt Redgrave (overnight leader), John Moule and Mike Cripps teeing off last, separated by only three shots.

The ladies' overnight leaders were Katrina Duncan (16- years old and also the leading junior), Jayne Long and Julia Wheeler.

The other leading juniors chasing Katrina were Owen Lewis (15) who was one shot ahead of Harry Moule (12).

By mid-afternoon, Katrina had taken the Ladies' title but had been narrowly pipped by Owen for the Junior Championship.

Meanwhile, going down the 18th Moule was in a final tussle with Matthew Redgrave. As it was, a sudden death play-off was avoided as Redgrave dropped a shot.
