Pewsey Vale 1 Stockbridge 3.

Stockbridge made the short trip to Wiltshire on Saturday as they took on Wessex League Pewsey Vale for their fifth pre-season game.

The Robins started brightly and Jack Hutchings just failed to lift the ball over the onrushing keeper.

After just 16 minutes Gavin Burgess had to come off due to injury, with Danny Field replacing him but the change did not affect Stockbridge with Jazz Beavis causing panic in the Pewsey defence every time he picked up the ball.

Lee Hamilton hit the bar from ten yards after good work from Beavis but on the half hour mark, Beavis slotted an inch perfect ball to Brad Craney who finished emphatically from the edge of the box.

They were however not ahead for long as a mix up ended with equalising before the break.

Stockbridge made four changes at half-time with a new look attack and chances were exchanged for the next 20 minutes with Dan Kempson continuing to impress in goal. On the hour Stockbridge again took the lead when Craney looped a header over the keeper after a superb deep cross from Jake Curtis.

With Craney and Dave Cotter impressing in the middle again, it was left to Cotter to complete the scoring when the Pewsey defence fell asleep and he showed great composure to take it round the keeper to make it three.

Manager Dean Hutchins said: “Today things just seemed to fall into place and the lads thoroughly deserved the victory'

'It’s still pre-season and myself and Jason Mussellwhite are very mindful of that but today is a huge step forward in what we want to achieve and a huge boost mentally for us as a new squad and credit where it's due, the lads were superb today,”

Thursday night Robins play Amesbury Town at the Recreation Ground KO 7pm.
