Penton's Jenson ton beats Redlynch and the ponies
5:00pm Monday 14th July 2014 in Sport
Redlynch and Hale III v Penton.
Penton played on the New Forest ground at Hale and the frequent interruptions of ponies crossing the outfield was greeted by spectators, but nervously unappreciated by the players.
Hale batted first Graham Smith and John Matthews put on 51 before 15-year old James Benson took control with a fast outfield and hit 11 fours in his 72. Gary Church and Max Bird scored 18 ending on 211-9. Best bowling figures were by Paul Stanford, with 3-41.
Penton’s opening pair Richard Jenson and Martin Patrick knew that a good run-rate was required and hit 26 off the first over, including six no-balls. Richard reached his 50 in 24 balls, and passed the 100 in 53 balls, with fours and sixes being hit all around the ground. Martyn also hit a beautiful six into a neighbouring garden, but was finally out on 39, being caught by Paul Lucas off his young 13 year old son Guy’s bowling. Martin’s 159 partnership with Richard produced a well deserved round of applause. Wayne Green then joined Richard, and raised the score to 182 off 22 overs before being bowled by Gary Church on a score of 11. Huw Rouse and Jenson passed the total in the 25th over, with Richard achieving his highest score of 140 not out.
