Over Wallop v St Mary Bourne.

Over Wallop hosted ‘Bourne in a local derby last weekend and elected to bat first having won the toss.

At a ground not renowned for big totals, Wallop made decent progress and were at 56-2 off 17 having withstood Bourne’s opening attack.

Mark Whiteside (2-19) made early inroads but just as the hosts looked set to step on the gas, Dave Prodger (5-16) was introduced and blew away the batting side with a skilful spell of seam bowling, ably supported by skipper Steve Wood twirling away to claim 2-21.

Wallop collapsed to 93 all out with only Mark Richards (26), battling against injury and needing a runner, making a score of note.

Not expecting an easy run chase against a decent Wallop bowling unit, ‘Bourne’s fragile batting collapsed again to 50-6 with only Jack White (21) of the top order making a meaningful contribution.

The ever dependable Roy Cavill (3-26) bowled superbly but Ben White showed fantastic composure way beyond his 16 years to bat for 95 minutes in contributing 11 not out as Mark Whiteside (38no) joined him in a match winning stand of 44 to see the visiting ‘Bourne side home for a vital win.
