Penton v Broughton.

Penton opened with John Hunter (25) and Richard Jenson (46), and the quick outfield was soon evident from the ten fours that Richard struck before being caught off Stu Williams’ bowling.

The opening stand of 70 for the first wicket was slowly increased by Huw Rouse (6) and Mark Hodgson (4), but Paul Stanford (44 no) was able to push the score onwards with eight boundaries.

Seventh man Kerry Charles (47) hit five fours, including one that stuck in the tennis court fencing just behind the supporters’ bench.

Williams took 2-43 off ten overs and young Sam Hudson had 2-31 off nine with Penton completing their 42 overs on 221-7.

Broughton’s openers Chris Grayston (38) and Adam Clement (3) were up to 15 in the seventh over when Barry Kavanagh had Clement out lbw.

Will Jones (16) and Ross Richard (7) kept pushing the score on but Grayston was run out off the accurate throw of Charles, with the score at 66-4 in the 18th over.

Hudson (19) produced some fine shots before Charles bowled him and last men Williams (15) and Lee Galton (13) raised the score to a final total of 125 all out.

Best bowling figures were again by Stanford, who took 5-31 off 7.3 overs.

Penton are now up to fifth in the league, and can hopefully maintain their winning form against top of the table Southampton Travellers next.
