Langley Manor IV v Penton.

Penton played newly promoted Langley Manor IV at the picturesque ground of Bartley CC in the New Forest.

Penton lost the toss and batted with openers John Hunter and Richard Jensen. Langley’s young bowlers Elliott Ponting (2-39) and Dylon Hatton (2-36) were able to keep the openers’ scores low with Richard bowled for five and John run out for four.

Wayne Green was able to steady the innings with his highest score for Penton at 109 not out, including 11 fours and four sixes. They lost a further six wickets, but all contributed to the game, with Steve Patrick on 21 and Bob Wootten partnering Wayne for a stand of 65.

Penton completed their 42 overs on 209-8.

Langley’s young team were able to keep up with Penton’s run rate through most of the innings despite Barry Kavanagh’s frugal ten overs for 2-18 and ‘keeper Huw Rouse’s two stumpings.

Paul Ferris was highest batsman with a quick 40, with four sixes and three fours before Paul Stanford had him LBW and Josh Harvey reached 34 when Steve Patrick’s bowling and Huw’s stumping ended his innings.

Andrew Carr had Patterson stumped and Langley finished on a respectable 190 all out.
