The first round of the Moonraker Summer Swimming League on Saturday saw a depleted Durrington Otters team enjoy a superb start with four first places and three seconds in the first 15 races thanks to the grit and determination of Ruby Allen (U/12 25m butterfly), James Hartwell (U/16 50m freestyle), Dylan Gosden (U/14 50m breaststroke) and Georgia Allen (U/14 breaststroke) taking first.
Niamh Reavill kept the momentum going with a comfortable win in U/14 50 m freestyle, followed by Amelia Rogers’s first in U/16's backstroke and U/14's medley relay.
Isaac Reed started strongly before Gosden and Tom Hickson set up a superb finish by Josh Eadsforth taking first.
Excitement grew in the U/16's 4x1 freestyle relay as a tight first leg was won by Hartwell and James Falkoner fighting to a very close second.
In the final few races wins came from Joshua Bills (U/14 butterfly 50m), Alice Sims (open freestyle), Joshua Bills, Hickson, Josh Eadsforth and Reed (U/14's freestyle relay) and Allen, Elizabeth Balls, Libby Ferris and Reavill (U/14's freestyle relay). Seconds were taken by Hartwell, Wilf Richardson, Gabriel Wills and James Falkoner (U/16's freestyle relay), Rory Burton (open 100m freestyle), Leigh Stanbrook (U/12's 25m backstroke) and Eloise Toomer, Georgia Shepherd, Lorna-Fae Evans and Alice Sims (open 4x1 freestyle relay).
Overall, Durrington Otters had a great show despite missing some key swimmers, the whole team pulled together to finish a very respectable third. Result Westbury 97, Durrington Otters 113, Bradford-On-Avon 125, Warminster 154.
