Barton Stacey 7 Wolversdene 1.

Barton Stacey retained the Andover Sunday League title in emphatic style.

After their disappointing loss in the Jimmy Monro Cup final, they were determined to complete a league and North Hants Cup double, and they duly obliged.

Although a point was likely to be enough, Barton seemed determined to keep their 100 per cent league record intact, and it took the prolific Nic Turpin only five minutes to give them the lead.

In truth it was one way traffic, and an Alex Iddles strike helped to calm the nerves of the village side.

Another from Turpin, John Spatcher Terry Mthimkhulu and Dave Cotter put the game out of sight before Sean Anderson rounded off the scoring before Wolversdene grabbed a late consolation.

With the league safely stored away with two games to spare Mulberry said “It is any club’s first objective to try and win the league title, and that is what we have done. It is a testament to the players that they have dropped no points in the league this season.

‘We have scored 63 and only conceded seven. Phenomenal” Barton now look forward to next season, where they will be hoping to enter a reserve team into the lower echelons of the league.
