Underhand tactics or not, Tidworth’s ladies’ captain Julia Wheeler still had to present seniors’ captain Philip Hall with the annual match trophy, above, at the post match meal.
Julia had seemingly pulled out all the stops to achieve a victory in the May Day event.
It was rumoured that she had even suggested to the course manager that the gents’ white tee positions should be as far back as possible to utilise the whole of the course. She was also not averse to the 15th tee by the club entrance being extended to Andover!
Humour aside, the match was played in the true sense of camaraderie and enjoyment, and the format was probably the fairest it could be – four-ball match play joint Stableford off full handicap with the ladies playing their course card against that of the men’s.
The seniors won by the closest of margins – one match.
