Mike Donnelly and daughter Georgia from Andover Triathlon Club both completed the May Day Winchester Triathlon.

For Georgia, this was her first attempt at a triathlon after she had shown an interest after watching her dad complete his first triathlon in September last year and decided to start training with Andover Triathlon Club.

She continued training through the winter months in all weathers with a goal of completing her first triathlon.

The May Day Tri was an ideal first course as it consisted of a 100m swim followed by a 2km off road cycle finishing with a 1km run.

Georgia did an amazing job and showed guts and determination on what was a warm afternoon as she crossed the finish line in 27:53 with a smile on her face greeted with a big hug from her very proud parents.

Mike Donnelly completed the adult sprint course in the morning which comprised of a 400m swim, followed by what can only be described as a very hilly 24km cycle finishing in a 5km run.

Mike said: “This was a tough course and I was thankful to get to the finish line to show Georgia it is achievable. Both me and Louise are extremely proud of Georgia and will encourage her to continue on her triathlon journey”.

Mike was joined by club mate Jarred Roberts who also completed the sprint in a fantastic time.

Andover Triathlon Club, sponsored by Heritage of Salisbury, is hosting its own adult and children’s triathlon on Sunday July 13 at Farleigh School.
