AFTER a flux of arrivals during cricket’s summer ‘transfer window’ Andover Cricket Club first XI are aiming for a promotion push in this season’s campaign.

They dramatically avoided relegation in their final game last summer under the guidance of Jonty Hadfield and the club have been quick to bolster their squad.

Club stalwart Michael Adams is the man to take on the side, replacing the departing Hadfield, and he has his sights on delivering promotion.

Adams stated: “Obviously losing Jonty is a big loss, he did a fantastic job in keeping us in the first division for the last two years but now the time has come to push on and hopefully we can be in the promotion mix up come the end of the season.”

Former county cricketer David Taylor has joined the squad, as has former Minor Counties man Glyn Treagus while the overseas’ slot is taken up by South African Byron Haycock.

Adams expressed his excitement at the additions, saying: “The signing of two high quality experienced cricketers in Taylor and Treagus is great news for the club who will offer us options with both bat and ball and they are raring to go.

“The signing of Byron Haycock as this years overseas player to replace Greg Dawson will hopefully prove to be a shrewd move. His record last season spoke for itself for Waterlooville where he scored more than 1,000 league runs.

“There are some highly talented individuals at the club and hopefully we can all make 2014 a season to remember for all four teams.”
