It was not third time lucky weather-wise for this year’s RNLI Karting Grand Prix, as the two hour endurance race was lashed by driving rain, which made the Malasian GP qualifying seem like a walk in the park.

The previous champions, the Three Cups, were trounced into second place by the new boys on the block, the Black Boy team captained by David Nicholson, although there were only 15 seconds between them on the finishing line. Tim Hunt’s Deere Hunters also put in a cracking performance taking third place on the rostrum. Unlike its’ Formula One cousin, the teams were denied the luxury of wet tyres which led to some exciting spin-offs and shunts on the slicks. To avoid future April showers it is likely that next year’s event will be delayed to May or June.
