Goodworth Clatford Tennis Club’s Ros Hursell and Richard Hancock have won the Sarum League’s end of season B Division tournament held at Salisbury Tennis Club.

This is the first time this tournament has been won by players from Goodworth Clatford which is one of the smaller clubs in the league.

Despite losing 4-3 to Ruth Repton and Peter Henderson of Penton Mewsey, Hursell and Hancock secured a place in the semi-finals by finishing second in the B Group after beating favourites Cathy Tarvin and Ben Wallis from Wellow.

Hursell and Hancock then beat the winners of the A group, Victoria Park’s Jan Bradford and Anthony Gillespie 5-3 with Hursell's consistency and the accuracy of Hancock's serving proving decisive.

They then beat hot favourites Sue and Lee Burt from Salisbury in a thrilling final 4-2 with Hursell's fitness and the power of Hancock's serve and groundstokes proving too much at the end of a very long day for the Salisbury pairing.
