Andover New Street enjoyed their Easter with back to back wins to make it three from three and banish any memories of the Hayling United game.

On Saturday manager Matt Styles took a strong squad to the island and welcomed back Tommy Gentleman who has been away travelling.

A second half brace from Jack Hutchings and a third from James Langton wrapped up an impressive win which lifted Street away from the bottom rung in Wessex Division One.

Styles said after the weekend: “I told the squad we had five games left and should be looking for three wins but now we are looking to complete the season with a run of five as we have US Portsmouth (played yesterday) and Hythe and Dibden on the last day, who can’t move up or down the table and may well be beatable on the day.”

Styles lost young Shane Reidy within ten minutes to an ankle injury but they regrouped and skipper Mark Keogh had a fine game at the heart of the defence in front of keeper Dave Tasker who had an easy day in goal for a welcome change.

With Styles and Langton up front Street put in what the manager described as “the best half of football we have played all season" as they dominated with Hutchings tucking away the opener before making it 2-0 from the spot following a foul. Langton’s team goal sewed the game up before the break after which Street hit the bar but were never in danger.

On Monday Street entertained Amesbury Town and for long periods the game looked to be heading for a draw until Hutchings again netted from the spot following a handball.

With Callum Sweeney and Dave Cotter working hard in midfield both Langford and Hutchings missed good chances and it looked as though Town had escaped when they equalised with yet another penalty but Hutchings’ cross found impressive 16 year old Charlie Waite at the far post and he won it for Street.

“Again we kept going” said Styles “and despite losing Dave Tasker at half-time and having to replace him with young Tom Crozier we did well to come out on top.

‘Charlie Waite has a hell of a future and for a 16 year old has no fear at all” added Styles who was pleased to beat his friend and ex-Street boss Phil Andrews’ total last year of 20 points with two games left.
