Whitchurch Squash Club’s first team’s last game of the season was against promotion rivals Alton who had already claimed second in the league.

Captain Dave Adamson, at three played some of his best squash all season winning very easily 3-0 - his speed round the court is a real asset but his fitness still needs work, while at five Dave Hicks was completely outclassed 3-0.

Alex Melkonian at two had too much skill, speed and energy winning 3-0. Alex has been a revelation winning eight from eight since joining, only dropping one game when dragged from his Christmas party.

Brett Farmer at one had the unenviable task of playing the British Army number one, who not only is unbeaten all season but shouldn't really be playing in this league. However he is a generous player and ensures all his opponents get a runaround before losing 3-0 albeit in close games.

The match was poised at 2-2 with Whitchurch relying on vet Mike Strong who started slowly losing the first two games poorly but with nothing to lose against a much higher rated player surprisingly turned the match round winning the next three games for an unpredictable win over a confused opponent. Whitchurch will finish the season in third disappointingly missing promotion for the no show at Portsmouth last week.
