Andover New Street bounced back from Saturday’s humiliating defeat by basement side Hayling United by beating Laverstock and Ford 1-0 at Foxcotte Park on Tuesday night.

A goal from Jack Hutchings ten minutes from time was enough to take all three points but they still stay at the bottom with Hayling having a better goal difference.

New Street boss Matt Styles played half an hour of the game against Laverstock despite completing the London Marathon two days before and said afterwards: “It was a huge comparison to Saturday when we weren’t anywhere near the races.

‘Last night they worked for each other and deserved it.”

Hutchings’ winner came after strong work from young striker Charlie Waite and leaves Street with four games to go starting with a trip to East Cowes tomorrow and Amesbury Town at home on Monday.

Styles then has the unenviable task of getting a squad together to go to US Portsmouth next Thursday before the final match at Hythe and Dibden tomorrow week.

Dale Peters is back in the squad having been away for much of the season but Prince Xhamela is suspended for the first three games.

On Saturday four goals from Brad Sylvester and two from Scott Hamilton gave the seasiders only their fourth win of the season as they leapfrogged New Street who now take over the wooden spoon position.
