Andover powerlifters Andre Duirno and Jack Smith recently competed in the BDFPAS British Powerlifting Championships in Staffordshire.
Jack was in his first national championships and finished in a creditable 16th place overall.
In the teenage 82.5kg category and weighing in at a very light 77.6kg he registered lifts of 170kg squat, 125kg bench and a 200kg deadlift.
These were below his best set at the qualifiers earlier in the year.
Jack’s next competition will be the Andover Expo tomorrow where he will hope to exceed his personal best total of 510kg.
Andre was in the senior men’s 82.5kg category and finished 11th. Once again this was his first ever national championships and he achieved a combined total of 530kgs made up of a 170 squat, 130 bench and 230 deadlift.
Both totals are all the more impressive as they missed nine lifts between them
