Andover New Street 2 US Portsmouth 3.

New Street boss Matt Styles could only speculate as to when the last time his club lost 3-2 three times in a row after last Saturday’s latest defeat at Foxcotte Park.

Their chances weren’t helped when Prince Xhamela was sent off around the hour mark for reacting to a bad tackle on Callum Sweeney and US Portsmouth took advantage with two goals from substitute Sam Hockey to take home the three points.

Street went into the game with the rare luxury of a full bench but the visitors went ahead on 11 minutes through Mark Robinson although Dave Cotter levelled before the break.

Jack Hutchings put New Street ahead soon after the restart but once Xhamela was dismissed they were always on the back foot and Hockey’s goals were the difference.

Styles said after the game: “We are just not seeing games out. Of the three games we lost 3-2 we should have drawn one and won one at least but poor defending again let us down.”

New Street welcomed back Jake Smith after injury and now go into three important games with Hayling United, Laverstock
