Andover 11 Blandford and Sturminster 5.

ANDOVER claimed a third place finish in Hampshire League One after a final day 11-5 annihilation of Blandford and Sturminster.

The win saw the town side climb above Winchester to cap a spectacular season and end the campaign as the league’s top scorers.

Andover won just three matches in the first half of the season but enjoyed 2014 as they went on to claim nine victories losing just once while enjoying a nine game unbeaten run which started back in February.

Captain Jamie Hacker took his season’s goal tally past 50 against Blandford while there were hat-tricks for Sam Goacher and Sam Cowley and Will Turner was also on the score sheet.

After the match Hacker said: “We have done so well to make such a success of this season after a very average start. It is testament to everyone, the players and the manager for their continued hard work.

“Everyone is very proud of what we have achieved and already we are looking ahead to next season and hopefully another promotion push.”

The hosts were quickest out of the blocks and were soon 2-0 up thanks to goals from Hacker and Cowley.

However Andover took their foot of the gas which saw the visitors come back into the contest before the break.

Some harsh words at half- time reignited Andover’s dominance as they came out from the interval which fresh enthusiasm and showed their superiority with a classy display.
