On the best day of the year so far, The Hampshire welcomed Rushmore GC for the first summer friendly.

Seniors captain Ray Neath and Stan Christopher were in a tight game where the home pairing was one up at the turn.

A home win at the tenth followed by halves at the next fivewas followed by a win at the 16th for the home team to win 3 and 2.

Alan Dixon and Bob Houghton found it difficult to keep up with the visiting pair who were three up with three to play but the home pairing fought back to win both 16 and 17. However, the last hole was halved and so the away pairing won the match.

Alan is not amused that he has now lost six of his last ten matches by just one down.

Mick Mumford was paired with Peter Rushworth, who was making his seniors “debut” and after 16 holes they were two up with two to play Rushmore pinched a half with a long putt on the 18th.

Match four saw Ted Richards and Norman Thrower play well to secure a 3 and 2 victory and in match five, John Rogers partnered Bernard Hancke and despite John conceding 12 shots to one of the opposition, they managed a half.

The last match saw Richard Hale and Barrie Thompson come good with a one up victory, which meant the Hampshire won the match by 4-2.
