Overton United 3 QK Southampton 0.

Plenty of work was needed to get Overton’s pitch playable for their Hampshire Premier League game with QK but it was worthwhile in the end.

The pitch was very sticky but playable for another tough encounter against a team who have already beat them this season but are now down at the bottom of the table.

Overton started well but due to the conditions it was hard work keeping hold of the ball and playing the type of football they like to play but as the half went on they got stronger and on 14 minutes after a scramble in the box Jordan Grant bundled home the first.

The half continued to be hard work and Overton wasted too many chances in the final third but went in a goal up.

Within ten minutes of the start Ben Dibbern but in a perfect cross for Alex Jupp to volley home the second.

QK tried to come back and at times looked as if they could break Overton down but both Henry Salmon and James McCallion were outstanding at the back and after a couple of scares Overton upped the tempo and went hunting for more goals.

Dave Parry hit the bar after a good run but on the 83rd minute keeper Sean O'Brien found Chris Morris in his own half who ran at the back four and slotted home the third.

Tomorrow Overton take a trip to the New Forest to play Sway FC in the quarter-final of the Hampshire Intermediate Cup.

The home team are managed by Andover FC’s former tormenter in chief Jimmy Sheppard and have up front the experienced Gareth Barnes, who scored twice for Christchurch against Whitchurch earlier in the season.

Sway are the current Bournemouth League champions and lay fifth in the table this time around.

Kick-off is 1.45pm.
