In the Andover Table Tennis League, Division 1 restarted the action with an exciting top of the table clash between Tigers and Pumas which resulted in a hard fought 7-3 win for Tigers.

It began with a five game encounter between Jerry Holt and Shaun Carver where Holt went two games up before Carver came back to take the next three, winning 11-6, 11-5, 8-11, 5-11, 11-13.

Holt did not have a good night as he again lost, this time to Ray Carver, going down 11-4, 11-7, 5-11, 9-11, 6-11. He also lost to Richard Fettes, but this time in four games.

Malcolm Cummins comfortably won his three for Tigers as did Andy Snellgrove, but not before he held off the challenge of Ray Carver, winning 11-8, 11-8, 7-11, 5-11, 11-6. The doubles was also a close encounter with Cummins and Snellgrove defeating the Carvers 11-13, 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8. This result lifted Tigers seven points clear of Pumas at the top of the table.

Tigers had previously managed a good 9 -1 win over Hanson B with Snellgrove and Cummins both winning three.

Holt again lost out, this time to Trevor Whitelock in three games.

Hanson Lions were beaten by Hanson B 2-8, with Trevor and Graham Audin both winning three for the B team. Lions should take heart from this result though, as Zac Hine ran Eddie Schumark very close and both Matt Carter and Graham Williamson beat Schumark.

Hanson C had a predictable 9-1 win over Hanson D where Nick George and Andy Barnes both won three for the C team. Michael Cartridge (D) played very well to beat Gerry Vaughan in three games and was unlucky to lose in five to Nick George.

Wallop Wanderers were crushed 0-10 by Figheldean for whom Phil Cook, Lionel Coles and Julie Dean all won three.

Division 2 also started with a top of the table clash with 3D’s losing to Enham 4-6. Andy Farmer (Enham) won his usual three ably supported by two from Pete Farmer.

Nicky Downs (3D’s) won two with Marie Dyke and Jessie Yi winning one each. The match turned Enham’s way when Farmer had an excellent win over Marie, which allowed them to wrap up the match by taking the doubles.

This win for Enham takes them to within three points of top side 3D’s, with a match in hand.
