Ringwood Town 3 Andover New Street 1.

Andover New Street went down to a disappointing defeat at Ringwood Town on Saturday, but not before Matt Styles’ young squad had taken the lead through one of the debutants, Charlie Waite.

The teenager, one of three making their New Street debuts on the day, took his goal well with a first time strike and the visitors held their lead going into the break but that was as good as it got.

“It was very frustrating as we threw it away again” said Styles, adding: “We could have nicked something but I told them at half-time to keep it tight and concentrate but that went within seconds.”

Ringwood’s Charlie Heggan equalised within two minutes of the restart but Street held them until late goals from James Totczyk and Nick Howes earned the points.

“I blame myself as sometimes I either gee the team up or relax them at half-time, but we seemed to be buzzing.

“The last half hour we made it easy for Ringwood.” said Styles who had Shane Reidy, Shame Massey and James Langton in the squad for the first time alongside Waite.

“There were not many plusses but Charlie played really well. He is raw but took his goal well.

Tomorrow New Street entertain bottom club Hayling United.
