County darts disappointment in Lincolnshire
2:00pm Tuesday 8th October 2013 in Sport
Hampshire County darts suffered a surprise 22-17 defeat at Lincolnshire at the weekend.
The B team Ladies matches resulted in a 3-3 draw with Sam Pike sustaining her unbeaten record with a great win over Jude Johnson.
Sam also collected the Ladies B Player of the Match award with a 18.99 average in which also included a 180 .
The Men’s B got off to a great start taking the first two matches which included a 100 per cent record from Richie Ford, sponsored by JM White Plastering, with another 3-0 win.
Ford is believed to be only the second player apart from Hampshire’s captain Kev Ede, not to drop a single leg in their two matches for Hampshire. Richie also repeated his average of 24.24 as per his last match .
The Men’s B finished on Saturday 5-7 in favour of Lincolnshire all hoping that the Ladies A and Men’s A could fight back and the Ladies A drew 3-3 .
The Men won the first three to take the lead with Ede posting a 24.22 average and a 4-1 win over Dean Baker .
Mark Thorne suffered a defeat by Steve Hamill 2-4 with a 26.75. Thorne started off the first leg 180, 100, 100 121 out on the bull then lost the second leg to a 15 darter.
It was nip and tuck in the first four legs with the match being all square at 2-2 and Thorne just couldn’t find the edge to Hamill who played very well and won 4-2 with a 27.39 average.
Sam Rooney played a fantastic game along with Mike Gillett with both averaging more than 29 and all went down to the very last match for Hampshire to claw a draw but it wasn’t to be after a fantastic game between Dennis Murrell who fought back from 3-0 down to 3-3 against Lincolnshire’s Chris Fidler.
Chris produced a 15 dart leg and decider to win the match for Lincolnshire.
