Club mourn the loss of steward John Coleman
The sudden death of Andover New Street’s popular club steward John Coleman was announced last week, which has stunned his family, friends and colleagues at the football club.
Club chairman Martin Tobin described John as “Someone we will never replace. Not only was he a great workmate but he was a genuinely nice guy who was always willing to help and would go the extra mile.”
“He was responsible for the catering, the pitch and the maintenance at New Street and is a massive loss.”
John died suddenly after being taken to Basingstoke Hospital and leaves sons Jamie and Sam, and daughter Beth, who gave birth to John’s grandchild hours after his death.
Both sons had played for New Street and Stockbridge and the clubs were due to meet in a North Hants Senior Cup tie the day after, which was immediately postponed as a mark of respect.
John was a qualified coachbuilder who worked at Locomotors for many years before stints in the building trade and at Ducal before moving to Foxcotte Park.
The funeral service is at St Marys at noon on Tuesday October 1 before transferring to Basingstoke Crematorium.
New Street clubhouse will be open after the service at St Marys and anyone who knew John will be welcome.
