New venue for Andover Netball League
12:00am Wednesday 18th September 2013 in Sport
Andover and District Netball League’s new season got off to a flying start with the change of evening and venue proving popular. The indoor venue should mean that no matches will be lost to bad weather and will hopefully attract new players who have been put off by the prospect of playing in freezing wet conditions in previous years.
KWD 33 FM Boxit 39.
A fast paced match saw KWD leading in the first quarter. FMBoxit had a change of shooters in the second quarter and brought on experienced players who closed down the gap and brought them back into the game.
KWD’s new temporary defence Cerrie Perrett and new signing Nat Barnes instantly gelled and hit the ground running against last year’s Division 1 champions.
Shooter Bev King gave her team the advantage back with some accurate shots.
The final quarter was still being played at a fast pace. KWD pulled back the score as Lynne Archer shot some beautiful long range goals but was too little too late as FMB took this excellent competitive first match.
Andover Day Nursery 26 Simplyhealth 26.
Newly promoted ADN had a close game with all players working hard to keep the score close.
Jemma Harrop (GD) worked well within the D to get the ball to shooters who had a tough game against Simplyhealth's defence.
Simplyhealth new players Corrine King (WD) and Tania Raey (WA) worked the centre court which helped their side to a draw.
Simply Aces 59 Andover Day Nursery II 26.
SimplyAces got off to a flying start with some accurate shooting from Cathy Loveridge and finished the first quarter leading by 18.
During the second quarter ADN2 started to find a rhythm and a way past SimplyAces’ tall defence.
Both teams were fielding new players and it didn't take long for them to gel as there was a great battle in centre court between the two players of the match, SimplyAces’ WA Andrea Westley and ADN2's WD Helen Lewis, who both made key turnovers at crucial moments. ADN2 were unlucky not to take away half points from the game.
