Andover Town and youth side top of the table
A hat-trick from centre-half Lloyd Foot took Andover Town clear at the top of the Wessex League First Division as they returned from the Isle of Wight with all three points yesterday.
"It was a very long day but worthwhile as it keeps our winning run going" said boss Neil Benson.
“We are top of a very competitive league and today showed we are pointing in the right direction.”
Town netted their now regular early goal and were 2-0 up at the break but East Cowes worked hard and pulled one back with many believing keeper Michale Weatherall was fouled in the process.
A late Foot penalty after Claudio Herbert had been fouled in the box cemented the points and Benson said: “That makes Lloyd our leading scorer and he showed his class today and I don’t think there is a better centre-half in the league.”
Meanwhile Town U18 returned from their game against Forest Green Rovers with a point from their SW Counties League clash at the Royal Agricultural College ground in Cirencester.
Ed Chappe and David Jerrard were on target with Town levelling despite having Callum Cuniffe-Pilley sent off midway through the second half.
The senior side go to Brockenhurst on Wednesday night for their Hampshire Senior Cup tie while the Sparsholt Elite side’s game at Keynsham against Southampton Bath Elite has been postponed as the side have a English Colleges Trophy tie with Uxbridge at Sparsholt ko noon.
