Relegation battle goes to final day for Andover
Hartley Wintney v Andover Vision Express sponsored Andover suffered a heartbreaking last ball defeat to fellow strugglers Hartley Wintney to dent their survival hopes.
Batting first Greg Dawson led the way with 79, Robbie Hadfield scored 27 and Harry Blackburn chipped in with a handy 22 not out to take Andover to 200-9 off their 50 overs.
Mike Adams (4-41) continued his fine form with the new ball removing three Hartley Wintney batsmen early. Lee Weiss and Scott Baldwin led their revival with 50s before falling to James Knight and Greg Dawson respectively. Needing four off the ball to win Jamie Teale middled one out of the ground to leave Andover on the brink.
Captain Jonty Hadfield said afterwards he was “gutted to have lost today but need to win next week to have any chance of survival with a couple of other results going our way.”
“We have lost by small margins this year and it would be a shame to leave the team down in Division 2.”
