All round showing puts Wallop back on top
Over Wallop v Liss.
Built around a skillful 90 from Dean Robertson, Wallop’s 173 was about par but would required a high level of bowling and fielding to secure victory and happily for Over Wallop, in their game against divisional leaders Liss, their bowlers performed as well as they have done all season and some sensational catches meant a 78 run victory.
Robertson opened the Wallop innings and took the decision to bat through on a pitch which proved difficult until batsman had played themselves in. He scored freely towards the end but reigned himself in to play with discipline as next top scorers were Huw Rouse (26) and Simon Mant (19) in this game which Wallop needed to go back to the top of Regional Division One North. All rounder Roy Cavill then excelled with the ball finishing with remarkable figures of 7-28 from his ten overs. Cavill proved impossible to score from until his third over when he took two wickets and half his overs were maidens during which time he found himself on a hat-trick only to have a vociferous LBW appeal turned down. Excellent fielding backed up Cavill’s skill with Mant at mid-wicket and Robertson at slip taking fine catches. Mant was the other bowler doing damage as his controlled pace brought 2-23 from six overs. Liss’ batsman Kemp top-scored with 51 out of the Liss total of 95 but he received very little support from his team-mates who racked up seven ducks.
Wallop celebrated their victory with a wicket for skipper and part-time bowler, Paul Cullen as their best season for some years continues to bring success and they will hope that they can maintain this form right to the end.
