Poor performance brings Whitchurch second league defeat
Whitchurch United 1 Lymington Town 2.
Whitchurch manager Jim Macey was forthright in his views on his side’s home defeat by Lymington Town on Saturday although putting most if the reasoning down to himself.
“I blame myself looking back as I made too many changes to keep some people happy and maybe I need to be more ruthless.”
While last Tuesday the Jam Boys dominated at Christchurch for an hour before fading and eventually going down, against Lymington the reverse was true, with interest as Macey was quick to point out. “We were awful in the first half as we laboured at the back and were slow up front and there was a lack of effort in some positions which was not happy about.” He added.
Macey began with Tuesday’s goalscorer Shane Lock and Isaac Sedu on the bench and with Tom Hindmarch back in goal but the visitors dominated the first half and a bad mix up let Roy Viner in on 13 minutes for a simple lob with defenders static.
The Linnets continued to pressure and in first half injury time Tommy Pemberton was harshly adjudged to have handled in the box and Viner doubled the lead from the spot.
Tom Adams and Ashley Ledger were withdrawn at half-time and replaced by Isaac Sedu and Shane Lock but the young striker picked up an ankle injury within minutes which didn’t help the home cause and he made way for Lee Hamilton which led to their best period.
“”We had chances to win the game as Luke Walker and Curtis Angell both missed one on ones but we only really started playing late on” Macey added.
With minutes left Sedu’s shot was parried to James Tennant who made it 1-2 then a point could have been saved at least as Alex Dockree’s weak header at the far post went begging but it didn’t and now Macey has to pick up his troops for the match on Tuesday at home to Romsey Town.
“We should be beating sides like Lymington but that is two on the trot now and we have to start winning and putting some results together.” said Macey who has Ali Brown back from injury for Tuesday. The rest of the squad are available with Lock being the only doubt.
