Teenage Ayres hits another ton for Amport
1:44pm Tuesday 6th August 2013 in Sport
Amport v Michelmersh and Timsbury.
Amport opener Charlie Ayers produced another thrilling ton this week at the Peacock Ground to see his side home to a comfortable win.
Batting first on another excellent track, Amport were into their stride very early as Ben Parkyn and Ayers made scoring look easy. Parkyn looked sure for a big score before coming unstuck to the bowling of Arthur and the rate was already at four per over when the inform Ian Langdown joined Ayers and they kept on at this rate in a partnership of 80, before Langdown was caught for 41.
Skipper Nick Bone (33) and Ayers continued to rack up the runs and with ten overs to go they were already at 185. Lee Ayers joined his son as Charlie past 100 and Peet Van Der Weisthuizen hit 11 in the last over to get the Amport total to an impressive 261-4. Charlie Ayers finished on 108 not out, which included two sixes and 17 fours.
In the field Amport went about their business very well, Ben Parkyn bowling a superb opening spell of 2-6 and Rob Skeats worked really hard without any luck for his seven excellent overs.
Westhuizen also contributed six tight overs, which practically put the game beyond Michelmersh, and the introductions of spinner Ayers and Langdown closed the game for Amport. Promising Brandon Smith made his claim for a regular first team spot, backing up a brilliant running catch in the outfield by clean bowling the Michelmersh opener for 32, and effectively ending the visitors resistance.
