United eye chance to break into top three tonight

WITH the forecasted rain yesterday and today happily not materialising Whitchurch United’s Wessex League Division One match at home to Fleet Spurs goes ahead this evening at Longmeadow ko 7.45pm.

With Team Solent’s game at Stockbridge tonight washed out, victory for the Jamboys would take them into second spot, just a point behind leaders Cowes Sports.

With a derby to follow on Saturday against Stockbridge, again at Longmeadow Jim Macey’s side could be clear at the top this time next week.

Meanwhile the club and league have a problem regarding next week as Whitchurch are due to play Broughton on Wednesday night in the semi-final of the Andover League Open Cup.

With last Friday’s league match at Tadley also a casualty the league have rearranged it for 24 hours earlier but club secretary Phil Cooper says that “we are trying to negotiate with Tadley and the league to get one of the games put back a week.”

With the league represented at tonight’s game it is hoped a solution can be found for all parties.
