Andover take the spoils in opening derby

ANDOVER Golf Club enjoyed a 4-1 home victory over Basingstoke which made for a fine start for new captain Pete Allen and playing partner Simon Clarke.

What was a very competitive match was played in extremely poor conditions but the Andover team came through as the captain led the way with a fine win. Last year’s skipper Dave Sneddon and partner Billy Groves suffered a close and unfortunate defeat but Anil Patel and Paul Warmington, Gary Tolfrey and Mark Gates, Ronald George and vice captain Tom Smith all posted 3 and 2 wins giving Andover a 4-1 victory.

The game was played in a great spirit and with the visitors making it a day to remember the club look forward to the return next year.
