All or nothing for Andover Hockey at Aldershot on Saturday

RELEGATION worries grew for Andover Hockey Club as they suffered a gruelling 3-2 defeat at home to Southampton University II.

The home side started brightly and took the lead after ten minutes when the ball fell to Will Turner who finished well.

The visitors rallied and after sustained pressure and countless short corners eventually levelled and on the stroke of half-time took the lead after catching Andover on the break.

Andover came out the blocks in the second period and deservedly drew level. Jamie Hacker’s original shot was blocked but fell to Turner who rounded the keeper and slotted home. But the hosts couldn’t edge ahead and as the game neared its end Southampton grabbed the winner.

Andover travel to Aldershot and Farnham tomorrow knowing victory would secure their league survival.

More from Andover Hockey Club later and in Friday's Advertiser.
